The Pelham Raiders are coming home

PELHAM – Since 1997, the lacrosse organization has operated under the guise of the Welland Raiders. This will soon change with the opening of the Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill as the players return home to Pelham, once again adopting the name the Pelham Raiders.

“We’re bringing it (Raiders lacrosse) back to its roots,” said Raiders president Ben Chambers. He explains that the organization was originally founded as the Pelham Raiders as a centennial project for the town back in 1967. When the organization began to flourish in the 1990s, the requirement for a facility pushed its teams to Welland.

Meridian lands Pelham community centre naming rights

PELHAM – March 8, 2018 – A sizeable donation from the province’s largest credit union means the ongoing capital fundraising campaign for the new Pelham community centre won’t come down to the wire.

On Thursday, March 8, representatives from the town, community and province gathered at the currently under construction facility in east Fonthill to celebrate the announcement that with a $1 million donation Meridian Credit Union has secured naming rights for the facility — henceforth known as the Meridian Community Centre — pushing the capital campaign to 90 per cent of its $3 million goal nine months ahead of the targeted wrap up date.

Meridian Credit Union gives Pelham Community Centre its true name

PELHAM – March 8, 2018 – The Town of Pelham is proud to announce that the beautiful new community centre is taking on the name of Meridian Community Centre, thanks to an agreement with Ontario’s largest credit union, headquartered in nearby St. Catharines.

Meridian Credit Union’s gift of $1 million dollars grants them the naming rights of the facility and helps the Town of Pelham reach 90% of their $3 million fundraising goal for the new centre.
