Fundraising campaign gets underway
The first phase of the fundraising project, with a goal of raising $3 million of the $36.2 million needed to complete the construction of the brand new Pelham Community Centre, has officially started. Individuals, community organizations, local businesses and companies are presented with naming opportunities for specific spaces in the beautiful new community centre, giving these donors a first chance to be recognized for their gift and demonstrate their continued support of the Pelham community and Niagara Region.
Some of the current opportunities available for naming include two individual gymnasiums, dressing rooms, the atrium lobby, elevators, the upper bridge and much more. These opportunities range from $15,000 to $250,000. One generous donor will have the chance to name the Community Centre pending a gift of $1.5 million.
The Pelham Community Centre has been more than 25 years in the making. Prior to 2012, various community councils received multiple reports dating back to 1990, outlining the region’s need for new recreational and community facilities. In response to these recommendations, the Town of Pelham surveyed residents about their needs, tested a business case and developed a proposal. A community volunteer committee then helped design the Pelham Community Centre, a plan that is in use today.
The Pelham Community Centre Committee is very excited about this transformative initiative. The new Community Centre promises to reinvigorate the community with outstanding sports, meeting, performing arts and recreational spaces. Residents of all ages will be welcomed to the Centre, with leisure programs, activities, and services to suit all ages and abilities. The project pledges to improve the quality of life in the Town of Pelham and the larger Niagara Region.
Phase Two of the project, which is expected to launch in 2017, will encourage all community members to become involved by offering more chances to donate, allowing every resident of Pelham to show their support.
